Successful Transformations in Sustainability

Fi Kalcevic

Investments in technology are becoming highly volatile due to fluctuating government policies, changes in subsidies, and market sentiment. With renewable energy on the rise, rapid technological advancements and competition can lead to significant price swings. With wind, solar, and tidal energy stocks emerging as high-profit options in the sustainability sector, their popularity is fluctuating. As one of the most equitable industries to invest in, many are adding these stocks to their investment portfolio, as renewable energy is becoming heavily integrated into present-day society, whilst remaining a safe option.

Last March, we saw the integration of solar panel and wind turbine technology to enhance sustainable energy. With newfound discoveries in mechanically engineered wind and solar-integrated turbines, the tidal energy market is on the horizon for expected innovations and evolutions. As the tidal field remains relatively complex, new and evolved solutions in the renewable energy sector can only begin to grow. With the Calculated Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) projecting the tidal energy industry to scale 10% to 15% over the next decade,  it can be expected for the competing sustainable energy source, tidal, to have advancements underway. By graphing the annual growth rate over the next four years, tidal energy is expected to increase, whereas wind and solar markets are expected to decrease, steadily establishing a projected market equilibrium.

Complementing any diverse renewable energy portfolio, tidal energy contributes predictability and consistency that renewable sources like wind and solar–which can be more variable–do not.

This diversification helps stabilize energy supply and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. With a market value of approximately $3 billion and increasing margins, tidal energy offers a strategic advantage with venture capital investments or  scaling high rewards.

Whether congruent with solar and wind advancements or not, tidal energy is seeing improvements in turbine design and technology that can be integrated across the grid. In the past, tidal energy has remained relatively controversial, due to the oceanic turbulence disrupting nearby underwater planetary life and ecosystems.  However, with new sustainable solutions, companies like Carnegie Clean Energy (CWGYF)  have built an environmentally friendly resolution to the issue. Whilst predicted current movement and water energy output, Tidal energy manufacturers use man-made pools instead of ocean water. Though this approach is less common, these enclosed basin systems operate just as efficiently—harnessing man-made tidal energy in artificial pools or lagoons without relying on direct ocean interaction. For example, electricity generation is controlled through these constructed pools located along coastlines, in which trap water at high tide and release it through turbines as the tide recedes. Maintaining an offshore turbine stream standard, Carnegie also integrates offshore systems with other renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, for hybrid solutions that maximize clean energy production while capturing submerged wave energy.
